Enneagram

 What is the Enneagram?

It’s a Framework.

The Enneagram is a framework that incorporates human psychology, spirituality, and somatic (“of the body”) intelligence. It offers language to help us more specifically identify our ingrained beliefs, stories, and protective patterns and highlights our greatest strengths and biggest challenges

It’s a Map.

The Enneagram orients us to the path toward deep connection and fulfillment. It shows us where we’ve come from and where we can go. While the map itself is not the answer to life’s problems, having a map with us along the journey can be extremely useful.

It’s an Invitation.

The Enneagram draws our attention to the many facets of our being and invites us to explore not only our personality traits but who we are beyond them. As we learn to bring to our attention to the unconscious habits we’ve adopted, we see how they’ve led us to play out familiar patterns and fall into the same old traps. The Enneagram invites us to loosen our over-identification with only certain parts of ourselves so that we may experience the wholeness of our true nature.

Make it stand out.

The Enneagram is...

  • a symbol that highlights universal energy patterns and

  • a system that outlines 9 character structures

  • a roadmap to understanding our core motivations, beliefs, and vulnerabilities and our habituated responses to these

  • only one piece of our identities

The Enneagram is NOT…

  • about telling you who you are or putting you in a box

  • dogmatic or religious

  • a party trick

  • a quick fix

Make it stand out.

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

The Enneagram is a complex framework that, when applied to personality, gets at core motivations, beliefs, and vulnerabilities that are often unconscious.

None is any better or worse than any other, and each type has infinite expressions because each of us has unique intersecting identities and life experiences. I see it, first and foremost, as a tool for self-observation, awareness, and development.

The Enneagram offers a map to help navigate our inner landscapes.

The Enneagram can help us see more clearly where we are, where we may be heading, what obstacles we are likely to face, and what equipment we may need to support us along the way.

The Enneagram provides language to recognize when we are on “autopilot” and the tools to come back to a place of conscious choice.

The Enneagram can help us identify our talents, gifts, and strengths, as well as pointing to what may be harder for us to see within ourselves. It outlines which of our attentional muscles are strong and which could use a workout in order to find balance. When we see our patterns more clearly, we can make choices to break out out them if they are not serving us.

It is a Tool.

First and foremost, the Enneagram is a tool for self-observation. It directs our attention inward, pointing to how we have navigated the world up until this point and offering alternatives moving forward, should we choose to explore.

It is a Map.

The Enneagram lights up the “YOU ARE HERE” sticker we might see on a map, and offers steps we might take toward a life full of deep connection and fulfillment. It shows us where we’ve come from and where we can go. Just as the finger pointing toward the moon is not the moon, the map itself is not the answer to life’s problems. True freedom lies in drawing from the map to chart your own path.

It is a Language.

The Enneagram provides language for our stories, habits, and ways of being in the world. It highlights what we see and what we tend to miss, our greatest strengths and biggest challenges, and the qualities that are available to us when we loosen attachment to our ego stories and allow in what best serves us.

Enneagram Overview

The Enneagram Symbol

The Circle: The Law of One

The outer circle symbolizes unity or wholeness. We are each connected to all that is.

The Triangle: The Law of Three

The inner triangle that connects points 3, 6, and 9 symbolizes the triadic nature of reality. It represents the “both/and” of life, opening us to the paradoxes beyond dualism: a Third Force that transcends and includes duality and invites creativity and the possibility of more than we can currently imagine.

The Hexad: The Law of Seven

Don’t worry about sounding professional. Sound like you. There are over 1.5 billion websites out there, but your story is what’s going to separate this one from the rest. If you read the words back and don’t hear your own voice in your head, that’s a good sign you still have more work to do.

Be clear, be confident and don’t overthink it. The beauty of your story is that it’s going to continue to evolve and your site can evolve with it. Your goal should be to make it feel right for right now. Later will take care of itself. It always does.

[T]he Enneagram is, at its most abstract, a universal mandala of the self - a symbol of each of us.
